Letter from Canada
Susanne sent us an e-mail from Ottawa -
...Just read your web site page for Feb. I must say
I look forward to reading them all. I was very interested
to note the comments about the snow that you had.
Of course,
living here in Canada, snow is such a natural thing, it doesn't
create the problems it does for you over there!
It brought to mind
a photo, which my Mum sent to me, along with others of my childhood
in Ayr, of the River Ayr, FROZEN OVER and what looks like quite a
bit of snow on top of it.
It's a photo of my Mother, brother Tom,
(A Former Holmston Pupil), and myself standing on the middle of
the River Ayr. I'm Not sure which year it would be but since
I have a brother born in 1948 , I would say it is before then,
else he would be in the photo also. I'm sure some of your older
former pupils could come up with a date!!. I would gladly send
you a copy of the photo if you would like...
Yes, the photo would be interesting (but please send it electronically -
your editors will write with details). David McRobbie
also says he remembers enjoying skating on the River Ayr, when it froze in
winter time. And Jim Fairlie remembers getting a row, in fact getting the belt,
from the Head Teacher when he and other boys went down to the dam to watch the ice
breaking up one year - follow this underlined link, to halfway down the page.
