Former pupils write in...
We've now had e-mail and letters from a number of former pupils.
Some saw Mr Queen's letter in the "Scots Magazine" asking for
former pupils to get in touch. Others saw the article in the "Ayrshire Post" about the school Web pages.
This was featured
on the "Post's" Internet edition at www.inside-scotland.co.uk/ayrshire/post.
We've also had replies to the tear-off slips printed in Millennium/175 newsletters
sent from the school.
Former pupils come from as far away as
- Queensland, Australia; Los Angeles, California, USA; Ottawa, Canada;
Tokyo, Japan;
- in Britain, Caithness, Kirriemuir, and Brighton;
and in Ayr, as close as Saint Andrew's Street, Craigie Lea and Hilary Crescent.
On the next pages, we have notes from a couple of Former Pupils who describe their
feelings on hearing of the Anniversary, the planned FP Association and our Web Pages.
The pupils originally took part in a small competition to write to Mr David McRobbie, one of the first
FPs to write to us. He wrote from Australia
with some entertaining reminiscences of his short time at Holmston
as a wartime evacuee from Glasgow to Ayr. See our earlier issues.
Several FPs have contributed reminiscences of their time at the school, which we've used
in the History "mini-series" features - Jimmy Fairlie,
Norman Johnston, Jimmy Brown, Susanne Nixon, Moira Anderson,
Lesley Bloomer, are just the
first of many.
As part of our Holmston Time Machine features, we've got class photos from 31 years,
51 years (P6),
51 years (P3),
85 years, and
88 years ago.
There's also a brief list of the people who've contacted us so far.
As noted above,
we've used some of the FPs' recollections in items in
the School History section - the Holmston Time Machine history mini-features.
