175th Anniversary - Former Pupils' Reunion
Saturday 25th November was a night to remember, for the Former Pupils' Reunion organised
by Sandy Murdoch, Jimmy Brown and other volunteers.
Walter Bowman, one of our oldest FPs (a lively 92), and Mr Burnett, Head Teacher, were joined by 94 other people, Former Pupils plus a few former Teachers and partners,
who gathered for a tour round the school and a Saint Andrews' Night meal, with Scottish music and a performance of
the Holmston Jig by the Music Club. At least another 52 came for
the tour round the school earlier in the evening.
The school's corridors were jammed with chattering Former Pupils, catching up on
acquaintances from years before. There's a full list of names from the Visitors' Book, and we'll have
more pictures as they come in.
Next up is the PTA Christmas Fayre, on Saturday 2 December.
And auditions are starting for the Sponsored Talent Competition suggested by the Pupils' Council.
Meanwhile, we're keeping holiday photos in "Life Outside Holmston", and
our feature on former teachers in the school "History".
The Council's still refusing to install that school NGfL Internet connection... :-(
There were articles in both of Ayr's local newspapers about our
recent Web awards from EduNET in Toronto, and
EduWeb in the UK who made us their "Site of the Week"
on 2nd November (links from the logos, below right). EduWeb wrote
a nice review of our pages,
here.
In a visit to the school, the chairperson of the Council's Education Committee
added her best wishes on the web awards, and said she would write formally to congratulate
us.
