2000/175 Commemorative Paperweights

As featured in our earlier issue 16, when they were presented to pupils after the Easter Service, these are the translucent commemorative paperweights showing the school crest. New Primary 1 pupils received theirs in August.

The paperweights are green (the main school colour) with the crest set inside the weight, in white.

The 2000/175 Committee of parents, former pupils and teachers was set up to celebrate the School's Anniversary.  We wanted to give each pupil and everyone who works at the school, a high-quality present which they could keep as a souvenir of their time at Holmston during the 175th Anniversary Year.  We think we've managed it.

The paperweights are not for sale, just a permanent gift to Holmston pupils and staff.
Still twinkling

The drawing for the school badge was taken by computer from the 1950 Holmston Scroll given to Mr Hunter, the then Head Teacher, when he applied for an official Coat of Arms for the school during the 125th Anniversary Year.

The 50-year old drawing is very detailed, more than we can show you on the Internet. Every brick in the tower, every window frame, the door handle and so on, is drawn in, and on the Scroll this drawing is in full colour. For the paperweights, it was easier for the maker to put in one colour, than six!

There is a copy of the Holmston Scroll in our History section, here. You can see it small-scale or large-size, if your computer is fast enough!
