Mother llama cleans up the baby

Life Outside Holmston

What do the pupils get up to when they're not at school?

One weekend in September, we tracked down a surprise baby Llama at Kirkcudbright Wildlife Park. The keepers had no idea the mother llama was going to have a baby (though when you look at llamas, you can see it might be difficult to tell).

The Kirkcudbright Park is pretty well organised, taking part in worldwide Rare Species programmes with animals such as the Red Panda. The extra llama just wasn't expected.

Above, the mother washes the baby, by now about 3 hours old.

On the next few pages, we've kept some holiday photos and reports.

EduNET listed

We've also got reports on Vikings at Largs; the "Big Idea" Inventor Centre in Irvine; strange things in the woods in the Galloway Forest Park; and there's more snake-handling, and other strange events, at Butterfly World in Dalkeith, Edinburgh.

The regular pet cats are still here and here, along with Rachael's cat.

And there's still a small feature on Pokémon.

Last, quick reports on trips to Lindisfarne in Northumberland, Life Interactive World in Newcastle, and a Belgian warship, the "Westdiep", also in Newcastle.
