The Holmston Scroll

In 1950, the headmaster of Holmston, Mr Samuel Hunter, applied for a Matriculation of Arms from the Heraldic authorities in Scotland, the office of the Lord Lyon King of Arms.

The heraldic Arms, commonly called the "coat of arms", are the badge in the school uniform.

The colourful document which describes the Arms still hangs in the Head Teacher's office. There's a small picture of it shown on this page. If you're interested in heraldry, click here for the text of the document, then click the "Back" button on your browser screen to return to this page.

If you have a fast computer, and a fast network connection (we don't) you can see a bigger copy of the document (175KB) by clicking here. Be sure your computer is set to show millions of colours at 800x600 or above, or the picture will look very odd. If the picture takes too long to load, click the "Stop" button at the top of your browser screen, then the "Back" button to come back to this page. Good luck!

Otherwise, click "Next Page" below or at the side, to go on to the following page.
