Former pupils write in...
We held a Saint Andrew's Night Reunion of Former Pupils, for the 175th
Anniversary.
Sandy Murdoch and his volunteers put on a great show, with
a historical exhibition, and a Saint Andrew's Night meal for nearly 100 people.
With additional material from the school and the Millennium/175 Committee, including
the Music Club performing the Holmston Jig and a set of Scots songs, it was a memorable
night. We've got some pictures in this update, including a group photo and others. We'll print more as they become available. Below, a crowd
of Former Pupils gather round old photos, trying to put names to the lists beneath...
We've got 148 entries in the Visitors' Book for the day.
People came from as far as Perthshire to the north, and Sussex to the south.
We've also had e-mails and letters from former pupils around Scotland and around the world,
from as far away as -
- Queensland, Australia; Los Angeles, California, USA; Ottawa, Canada;
Tokyo, Japan;
- in Britain, Caithness, Kirriemuir, and Brighton;
and in Ayr, as close as Saint Andrew's Street, Craigie Lea and Hilary Crescent.
On the next pages, we have notes from a couple of Former Pupils who describe their
feelings on hearing of the Anniversary, the proposed FP Association and our Web Pages.
Several FPs have contributed reminiscences of their time at the school, which we've used
in the History "mini-series" features - Jimmy Fairlie,
Norman Johnston, Jimmy Brown, Susanne Nixon, Moira Anderson,
Lesley Bloomer, were just the
first of many.
As part of our Holmston Time Machine features,
we've got class photos from 1971, 1969,
47 years ago (P7),
51 years (P6),
51 years (Infants 3),
67 years (7-year olds, ?Infants 3),
70 years (also 7-year olds),
73 years (also 7-year olds),
85 years, and
88 years ago.
There's also a brief list of the people who've contacted us so far.
As noted above,
we've used some of the FPs' recollections in items in
the School History section - the Holmston Time Machine history mini-features.
