A Trip Down The Clyde
It used to be that people from Glasgow came down to Ayr by boat, for a day out.
We changed things by going from Ayr to Glasgow, then taking a trip on the Water Bus that
runs from near Central Station, down to the Braehead Shopping Centre.
The trip shows a mix of spectacular buildings like the new Science Centre, the "Armadillo" Concert Hall (above), an
old sailing ship and a heliport (left) near the SECC and Kelvinhaugh School...
...and some new warships (these three
were Swedish, on a visit to Glasgow). There are also a lot of overgrown ruins where
the shipyards and warehouses used to be.
At Braehead, there's no shipyard, just a shopping mall. There is also a ship museum and a statue of these two
giant men, looking as though they're pulling a newly-built ship out into the river.
Back in Glasgow, at Clyde Street, our young reporter snapped this unusual statue. It's a memorial to
the people who went from Glasgow to fight in the Spanish Civil War in 1936.
