For new readers, our
Introduction -
Holmston Primary has about 240 pupils, boys and girls between
the ages of 5 and 11, in 8 classes. There used to be more of us,
and 9 classes, but numbers went down a little after
the summer 2000 holiday.
There are about twelve full-time and part-time
teachers, including the Head Teacher, Mr Burnett, and the
Deputy Head, Mrs Kennedy.
As you can see from these photos, we are based in a
traditional Scottish sandstone building, where the school moved in 1884.
It was extensively refurbished about five years ago with a modern
interior including cafeteria, offices and a new main
entrance in Ashgrove Street -
The school is beside Holmston Road, Ayr, just outside the town centre.
It's close to the railway station and two major roads into the town.
Most pupils live close to the school though a number travel by bus
from other parts of Ayr, up to about two miles away.
