Over Fifty-One Years Ago...

From Jimmy Brown in Ayr, this is P6, 41 children at Holmston in 1949. He's in the middle row, second from the left. The picture is a little scratched, which makes one little girl look like she's chewing a pencil!

This is still in the days before the new school uniform was introduced, the pupils are wearing individual clothes.

There's a fairly full list of names below, recognise any Grannies or Grandpas?

Primary 6, 1949

Back row, left to right -
M. Love, D. McCulloch, M. Mathews, J. Gordon,
H. Muir, S. Court, L. Coia, J. Walker,
T. Martin, A. Cannily, H. Thomson, J. Jackson.

Centre row -
D. McCartney, J. Brown (whose photo this is), I. Black, R. Allison,
T. Nixon, J. Hendron, G. Campbell, R. Thompson,
T. McCulloch, J. Patterson, K. Hamilton.

Front Row -
S. Willson, M. Ferguson, J. Crawford, J. Smith,
H. Mack, S. Riley, B. Wallace, I. Cairns,
I. Cooney, J. McCartney, L. Easthope, A. Smith, L. Kevan.

Seated - A. Allan, N. McCreadie, J. Kelly, B. Ross, - .

The names are taken from very clear, but very small, handwriting on the back of the picture. Spelling mistakes are probably the editor's fault!

Again, the photo was taken by Mr Sternstein, who took many of these photos over the years. There's a letter from his son Allen, here.
