Ann's Visit...
Ann Cameron, now Knight (1956-63) got in touch in August, to announce that she was coming to Ayr for a week in September, and would like to visit the school. Ann had left
Ayr with her parents to go to Canada in 1966, and had never been back for a visit, though relatives from Ayr have been regular visitors to Canada over the years.
Mr Burnett laid on a tour of the school, and a school lunch. Later, Ann came to visit the
web page editors, and we had a great evening.
Ann is the part-owner of Auracom of Oshawa, an Internet Services company in Canada. She donated the computer space and annual registration fees for our website, www.holmston.com.
Mr Burnett, Alan Scott and son are now the proud owners of Auracom and other Canadian T-shirts, large-size. Much appreciated!
In Canada, Ann has already met up with Ian Winslow, another FP from her class. Ian lives about 30 miles away from her.
Back in Ayr, Ann visited the school with Donnie Briggs, another FP from her class, and later met Philip McAnespie and Janet Rorison (now Weir). Ann had lost touch with Janet,
but Mr Burnett found Janet's entry in the visitors' book from the FP Reunion.
Ann toured the school, including the classrooms, the new hall and the even newer
IT room. Like other FPs who've visited the school, she renewed a lot of memories.
She's talking about another visit in the next few years.
Haste ye back!
Donna McDougall wrote from Edinburgh last Autumn -
"Dear Editors,
"I was very pleased to see my school photograph (1971/Mrs Loudons class) on
your web site. I was at school with Jeffrey Wilson (who entered the picture)
and have been curious to know how every one else has faired over the years.
Is it possible to contact Jeffrey through yourselves?
"My name is Donna McDougall, I was in the same class as Lorna Bain, Kenneth
McNicoll, Margaret Murray, Paul Saddler, William Shearer, Stuart Cruikshanks,
Gordon Shearer, Wanda Kordega, Billy Burnside, Alisdair Sutherland, Shona
Sutherland, Craig Thompson, Alexander Graham.... Etc.
"My first teacher was
Mrs Shaw, my favourite teacher was Miss Marshall (P3), and my most
respected teacher was Mrs Loudon. Strict, but fair!. My head master at
the time was Mr Garvin (Mrs Garvin also taught at the school, if I am not
mistaken?)
"I would be pleased to hear of any further reunions as I often visit Ayr. I
have been settled in Edinburgh for many years and would love to meet up with
former class mates to talk about old times!
"Yours Sincerely,
"Donna McDougall" (e-mail address supplied)
Thanks for writing, Donna, we forwarded your message to Jeffrey, and I'm sure some others in your class
will be reading this.
Jeffrey Wilson (1968-74) didn't get our first message, but wrote from
Brampton, Ontario -
"Hello everyone,
"I have written in to Holmston's fantastic website many times and I am always
happy to see how many former pupils visit and leave a message, but, like Donna
McDougall, I would love to hear from some of you and chat about the old times and
of course the present.
"I am leaving a link to my email address,
(supplied) and I would really love to hear from you, I had changed my email address
when Donna's message was forwarded and I did not get to respond.
"I now live in a town called Brampton which is about a half hour drive from
Toronto, Canada, I work for Air Canada airlines as a ground equipment mechanic
where I have been employed now for 15 years, the reason I ended up in Canada was that I
met a girl one night at the Bobby Jones disco at Burns Statue Square in Ayr, who worked
as a flight stewardess from Canada. In 1985 I immigrated to Canada and got
married in May 1986, we have two boys now, ages 11yrs & 7yrs David being the older
and Tyler being the younger, my wife's name is Lola.
"So, that's a little info on my life and where I am now, take care everyone
and please keep in touch.
"Jeff Wilson"
Thanks for writing again, Jeff, we've got your new mail address on file, and will forward
any messages. Sorry we don't post people's e-mail addresses here, if you saw how
much junk mail we get (some of it quite nasty) you'd maybe appreciate it. But glad to pass on messages - e-mail the
editors at HolmstonPS@dial.pipex.com
